Tour de Salt Ride on October 10Posted on May 21st, 2015
ONLY 26 SLOTS LEFT!
First ride of its kind in North America!
Ride your Mountain/Fat Bike 650 feet underground in an active salt mine!
First Class Swag: Registration Fee includes a custom Riders-Only jersey, buffet meal, & free Blast Pass to Strataca on Sunday. (Options will include adding meal tickets and discount Blast Passes for family members)
This is NOT a race. A maximum of 10 riders will depart every 30 minutes and descend 650 feet underground into the Permian Sea. Follow a guide through dark caverns and tunnels of an active salt mine, followed by time to explore the Mining Gallery — from the seat of your own bike or on foot.
Must be 18 and older or 9 and older when accompanied by an adult rider. A list of other areas of interest within riding distance will be provided to complete your day or weekend.
Registration Fee: $115
Groups of 5 Participants purchased by One Person: $525
Groups of 10 Participants purchased by One Person: $1,000
A special shout out to Bike Walk Wichita, Manhattan Women’s Group Rides, Midwest Masters Cycling Team and the Hutchinson Clinic for their sponsorship of groups of 10 riders or more! We would also like to thank Apostle Bike Works, Cornejo Rollers, TNT and Theimer/Meyer Family from Topeka for signing up 5 riders or more from their groups. We look forward to taking you all for a ride “On the Dark Side!”
Bike — We recommend a mountain/fat bike but fitness/hybrid bike would be suitable as well with a minimum tire width of 32c (1.25 inches) or wider with knobby or file type tread.
Gear — All riders must wear a bicycle helmet (ANSI or Snell certified) at ALL times while in the mine, whether on the bike or off. Participants can wear cycling shsorts and jerseys but should take into account the cool (68 degrees) temperature of the mine as well as the rough terrain that will be encountered on the route. Riders might want to consider long pants and riding gloves just in case you take a spill. (Salt cuts and hurts.)
For those familiar with IMBA Trail Difficulty Rating System, the route would be classified as a Green Circle “Easy.”
Lighting — Riders should have a handlebar or helmet mounted light. Riders will be in groups of 10 so it is not necessary (and not recommended) to bring an extremely bright light. We recommend your light be under 350 lumens (or have a lower setting) and have a run time of at least 1 hour.
Registrations for Tour de Salt need to be done through bikereg.com.
