Tour CarPosted on May 24th, 2016
This wooden car was built for tours, but it’s unclear if it was ever used. This is just one of the many artifacts you’ll be able to see underground.
In 1952 nearly 9,000 people toured the mine. It became difficult for miners to get their work done so they went to a system of making appointments for tours one or two days a week. Sometimes as many as 150 people went through the mine in a day. On May 5, 1961, Carey Salt stopped giving tours to the public.
Little did we know tours would happen again about 50 years later!
